WHAT MAKES ME COOK–A COOKS’ DISCUSSION BOARD

As an avid cook, I’m interested in what makes other cooks enjoy the process so much. Tell me about your kitchen exploits.  And, please, try to contain yourselves over the word “exploits.” We don’t want to rouse any suspicions from Kaukab.

I wasn’t sure where to post this. It’s a question. Where does one find gyro meat and what exactly is it? Oh yes, and how do YOU pronounce ‘gyro?’

Great question, Agnes! Gyros, pronounced Herrro (as in rolling the “r” a bit), are a lamb and beef combination of pressed meats. The same can be done with chicken.

I get mine at the local International Market, run by an Indian couple. It comes in a box–thinly sliced pieces, much like the Steak ‘Ums, but far better in flavor and texture. They’re kosher, too.

I think I’ve seen them at a Walmart somewhere once. Don’t go to those much, but give it a try. Also, try a local Mediterranean shop, if you’re lucky to have one.

I would also think you could find some online.

      Happy Gyro Hunting.

I like being in the kitchen, with NPR on the radio, chopping stuff, tasting stuff — it’s comforting and satisfying. I like feeding people who are appreciative, too. Madi is always appreciative, although she never seems to be home for dinner anymore. It’s marching band season.

Yeah, and waiting in car on Wed. nights to pick up my kids from Bible Youth, listening to “The Splendid Table.”

There’s something really satisfying about chopping veggies, I find. There’s a rhythm to it and the sound of the veggies crunching under the knife takes me to another place.

Mythical! This blog looks just like my disused in unison! It’s on a fully other subject-matter but it has lovely much the uniform verso layout and design. Wonderful selection of colors!
